中关村生命科学园是为生命科学研发、中试、生产的机构提供研发型产业的基地，休闲广场位于园区一期用地的东南部，占地面积3hm2，是园内景观与外部环境相联系的关键节点。

Zhongguancun Life Science Park (ZLSP) is an R & D base for life science. Leisure Plaza, located in the northeast of the Park, is about 3ha and links the inside and outside of ZLSP.

构思之初，设计者正好购得由Phaidon出版社出版的《Heaven & Earth》一书，书中收集了300余幅有关生命与宇宙的微观、中观和宏观的精美照片，从照片上那绚丽柔美的生命、细胞及组织到气势磅礴的广博的宇宙景象中，设计者捕捉到了设计灵感，这就是：生命是复杂的，但又是无序中的有序；生命的结构是无边无际的活的结构，这种结构遵循着特定的秩序和法则，以相似的基本单元不断重复，无限延伸，分布随机而有序，组成瞬息万变，气象万千的世界；在生命的结构中，没有轴线，没有对称，没有平行，没有两个完全相同的形状。这种结构看似杂乱，实则是有序而统一的。

At the beginning of design, the designer happened to buy a book, Heaven & Earth, published by Phaidon Press. In this book, there are over 300 exquisite photos about life and universe. From the brilliant pictures of soft life, cells, tissues to the magnificent scenery of the vast universe, the designer captures the design inspiration, that is: life is intricate, and there is an order in this seemingly chaos. The structure of life is immense, and it follows a specific order and rule, that is, the basic units distribute repetitively and endlessly, flexibly but with an order, and compose the spectacular world. In this structure, there is no axis, no symmetry, no parallel, no exactly the same shape. Although this kind of structure looks messy, it is orderly and uniform.

在设计中，我们把对生命结构规律的理解转换为设计的语汇，传达出繁复但有序的环境理念。我们将不同的景观要素，如铺装场地、植物、水体、平台、条石凳、攀缘架等分为不同的层，如同生命中不同的组织系统。每一层都自成一体，以特定要素的相似单元的随机并置组成，然后再将这些层叠加在一起，形成看似复杂，实则统一于特定的规律与秩序的景观结构，如同一个生命的整体。

In our design, we convert our understanding of life structure into form language, conveying the idea that the world is intricate and orderly. We conceive different landscape elements, such pavement, vegetation, water features, platforms, benches and pergolas, as different layers in spatial structure, symbolizing the different tissue systems of organism. All the layers are superposed together and form the landscape structure which looks complex but is united according to a certain order, just as the life structure.

生命科学园休闲广场的设计意在满足使用功能的同时，结合设计者对生命科学的理解，创造出具有启发性，具有视觉冲击力，具有丰富的空间层次，同时又具有清晰简明结构的景观。

Leisure Square meets all functional requirements, and at the same time, it is an enlightening landscape with strong visual impact, rich spatial changes, clear and concise structure.
